Traditionally, our graduates from the previous academic year are celebrated during the EMLE Midterm Meeting in February. However, due to Covid restrictions, the Midterm Meeting 2022 was hosted online. For our 2020/2021 graduates, who also did not have an in-person Midterm Meeting the year before, it was simply not an option to have an online graduation ceremony. They took matters into their own hands and submitted a request to the EMLE Board for an in-person event. On Friday 17th of June 2022, the EMLE Graduation Ceremony for our class of 2020/2021 finally took place, nowhere less than in the beautiful city of Rome.
The ceremony started at 14.30 with a warm welcome by the EMLE Director, Professor Louis Visscher, and the LUMSA Vice Rector for Research and Internationalization, Professor Gennaro Iasevoli. The best thesis from 2020/2021 titled “Manipulation through Design: A Law and Economics Analysis of Dark Pattern Regulation in the EU” was presented by Alexander Egberts. After which, our nine highest ranked graduates received a letter of distinction in recognition of their excellent achievement. The Keynote Speech was given by Antonio Nicita, Professor of Economic Policy at LUMSA University and member of the Regulatory Scrutiny Board (European Commission). The remainder of the ceremony was dedicated to our 2020/2021 graduates who were called forward alphabetically by their third term university.
After the ceremony, a short guided walking tour was organized around the Castel de Sant’Angelo for those interested guests. In the evening, a special graduation dinner took place at the outside terrace of LUMSA University. Both students, family and faculty got to enjoy a lovely evening of good food, wine and music.
We would like to thank our partner university LUMSA who has been responsible for hosting such a wonderful day. And of course, a special thanks to all our 2020/2021 graduates who have made this event a success. We are looking forward to following your future endeavors and hope to see you back at one of our alumni events!
