Alumni

The EMLE programme started in 1990-1991. Since then, it grew substantially and has evolved over time. We are interested to keep a strong bond to our Alumni and hear from them about their experience and ideas for improvement of their EMLE programme, it is most important for us to be able to give them the possibility to network and benefit from each other’s knowledge on different jurisdictions. Our alumni are from all over the world, so: wherever you go, you will find some fellow EMLEs!

On this page, you can find out in which sectors our Alumni work, you can read the experience of some Alumni and you can find out how to stay in touch.

If you would like to reach out to your former EMLE colleagues or get into touch with EMLE students from different years, you can stay in touch via Facebook or LinkedIn. On each channel, the EMLE maintains an alumni group where graduates can keep in contact with each other and discuss issues related to Law and Economics. The group is also used by the programme management to post items of possible interest for EMLE Alumni.

We also warmly invite all Alumni to come to the yearly Midterm Meeting which takes place in February.

We are currently busy building up a strong alumni network. One of the dreams of the alumni network is to connect more experienced EMLE Alumni with current students or recent alumni for career guidance and general information, but also trying to set up internship options for interested students in companies that are in the EMLE network. If your firm would be willing to provide internships or other career opportunities for EMLE students, we would be very happy to get in touch with you about it. Please send an email to alumni@emle.org if you are interested or if you have any questions.

All EMLE Alumni are qualified to join the Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association. The EMA offers an international professional and personal network for Erasmus Mundus students and graduates – please click here.

EMA has an EMLE Programme Representative. Her name is Zara Kaushik, and she introduces herself as follows:

I graduated from the EMLE programme in the academic year 2012/13, across Universität Hamburg, Università di Bologna, and Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. In the short run the EMLE experience was challenging and enlivening – the mix of courses across universities as well as the international experience was transformative. In the longer run I have found that the understanding of different jurisdictions, as well as the theoretical underpinnings of laws and how they must be informed by a discipline such as economics, has stayed with me and influenced my own practice of law in India.

For the year 2023/24, I am Programme Representative for the EMLE at the Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association (EMA). EMA is a nonprofit that gathers participants of all Erasmus Mundus master and doctoral programmes under an umbrella, enabling networking, upskilling and support throughout the community. As EMLE Programme Representative I will act as a connector between the EMLE programme and EMA, as well as a point of contact for the EMLE student and alumni community should they wish to take advantage of the larger EMA network. For any questions or to be redirected to appropriate support, please feel free to write to me at emle@em-a.eu.
